This is really hard to put in writing...

Paid for 2 rooms in The Lawson Hotel on Charnley Road, Blackpol from 11/07/08 - 18/07/08. 4 adults, 2 children (booked for 3 year old & 5 month old). Bed, breakfast & evening meal.

I paid in full £832 (£208 pp).

I contacted the Hotel this morning to find out if I could get any of my money back as my mother-in-law (who was going to be sharing a room with her 14 yr old daughter) passed away suddenly yesterday. (Still awaiting postmortem which won't happen until Monday). She was a lone parent and me and my partner (we already have 2 small kids) are going to take her in but we can no longer go on this holiday due to many factors - but mainly money. The hotel says that "In the unfortunate event of cancellation, deposits are non-refundable under any circumstances.." That means I will lose half of what we have paid. I explained the circumstances to them but all they said was that's why companies recommend taking out insurance - I had not been offered this when I booked (or when I went last year) so we had no idea. It may seem ignorant but to be honest I didn't see why you would need insurance on a UK holiday - until now.

If we can get around £650 / £675 it means we have more to put towards the funeral costs - because we work we won't get much help.

Sorry if I have went on a bit but we are all still coming to terms with it - she was only 47 and we are finding it very hard.
