19 year old hard-working student looking for a job Experience as Waiter, Bar Man & Sales Assis
Hey there The name is Andrew Southward I'm 19 and study at Abertay. I'm studying Forensic Science. I know you might not even care about all that but I thought I might as well give a little introduction of myself
The reason I'm posting this add is because I'm looking for a part-time job.
I've got plenty of experience working as a waiter and bar manager, I also have some experience of working as a sales assistant in a sports shop.
My very first job was a voluntary job in a small establishment that a friend of mine owned. I was a retail sales assistant in a Sports shop at home. I was still underage and that is why the work I did was voluntary but the work experience that I gained was still relevant. Being a long time ago Point of Sales Systems have changed dramatically but I can easily learn new techniques.
While at home I worked as a waiter where I was part of a large group of staff working shifts. We were a group of usually 17 waiters & waitresses on a night and had to serve hundreds of Diners in the 5 different sections that the restaurant contained. My job involved taking orders and serving food & drinks to the customers. Where any problems arose with customers I dealt with them as best I could but if the problem was too complicated for me to deal with then I referred them to the Head Waiter or else asked the Owner's of the establishment for any help that they could give me regarding the problem with the customer. I've taken food orders of tables as large as 30 covers and had to make sure I made no mistakes. I had to ensure that the food of that table then all went out and no mistakes were made after I handed the order in to the kitchen. During this job I learnt how to work in a busy environment and under pressure of trying to serve hundreds of people and providing them with the best service possible.
Also I've got work experience as a Bar Manager of a small bar within the Tayforth University Officers Training Corps Unit in Dundee. This job involved taking stock checks, doing stock runs, counting up the cash the following morning, cleaning duties behind the bar as well as general bar serving duties. This gave me a sense of responsibility although I found it sometimes quite demanding especially when I needed to help organise functions such as the Squadron Ball and other smaller functions. This job gave me plenty of hours of bar experience as well as experience at running a small establishment.
My latest and current job is that of being a Student Ambassador. I am currently working for the University of Abertay as part of the Students Helping Students Scheme. This is where us, the group of students help other new students settle in to University life. We meet the International students at the airport on a given date and bring them to the University and show them around the University and also show them around Dundee. This job gave me experience with the being empathetic with the students especially the one coming from other countries as I had to relate to what they were feeling coming to a new country and starting at a University in a Country where they might not fully understand the language or culture. Being a foreign student myself and having already been through first year and settling myself in it was easy to empathise with all the students both international and local. Also this gave me a sense of customer service as each student asked me or a colleague if they had any problems and I had to answer their questions or at least refer them to the appropriate person or persons able to answer their questions. Students still come up to us today and ask us for help with some minor issues. The only problem with this job is that we are only needed during Open Days or Information days and during the initial two weeks of University when all the new students arrive.
With all the detailed work experience that I have got I feel that I am capable of working practically any job. I'm a fast learner so even if my experience is irrelevant than I still feel that I can make a difference to your establishment in some way! Thank you for looking at my ad and I hope you consider me for Employment!
